We got it done — together!
A Message from Gail
I am so grateful for all that we have done, individually and collectively, to not only get on the ballot and get out the vote, but also to put forth a vision of Skokie based on putting people and the planet first.
We never compromised our values. And as a result, we touched thousands of people in all parts of Skokie who welcomed us. We didn't pander to small plans but became a repository of big visions, energy, and hope.
Skokie residents communicated loud and clear that we want a Village Board that listens to its people. I ran for Trustee because the people of Skokie deserve a leader who consistently shows up for them. Skokie residents hunger for elected officials who are there for them; who respond to their calls the first time and not the tenth time; and who implement a vision based on principles of fairness and respect.
My campaign was founded on our shared dreams for Skokie, about the kind of Village we want to be; and with my win, I proved that by inviting voters to contribute to that collective vision, we can build a true People’s Movement. Our residents want to live in walkable, tree-lined neighborhoods with thriving shops, restaurants, and artisans; parents and children can be close by; where workers can live; where we have a diverse set of housing choices; and people are treated equitably regardless of who they are, what they earn, or where they were born.
As I said at the League of Women Voters At-Large Trustees Candidates’ Forum, Skokie has the raw material and tax base for everyone to be successful in every community. As your Trustee, I will engage residents around a conception of Skokie as a safe, convivial, environmentally sustainable, and economically thriving set of neighborhoods, as encapsulated by the Principles of the Welcoming Community, which I helped develop a decade ago with dozens of north suburban residents.
Responsive government means hitting the streets and meeting residents and business owners where they are at, and with respect. This is what I do now and what I will do as Trustee.
We will open up boards and commissions to usher in diverse ideas and experiences, and together, we can co-create a new Skokie Comprehensive Plan.
Working with Skokie residents first and foremost, along with a fine new Village President in Ann Tennes, the other elected Trustees, and other government bodies, I will continue to educate, advocate, and organize to bend that arc of the moral universe towards justice as I have for decades.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your trust and support. Together, we will stand up for what’s right, and we will get it done.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Gail
