Skokie Vision 3

Skokie Vision #3: A third of Skokie households -- over 8,000 -- are paying more than they can comfortably afford just to stay put. We're losing fixed- and low-income households earning under $50,000 and it's no wonder, since 80% of them are burdened.

Layer on top of that, we have a shortage of housing that's accessible to people with disabilities, with inadequate systems to allow people to adapt their current housing. And in our job-rich Skokie, only 8.7% of workers actually live here. It's simply not healthy, safe, economically sound, or morally just for the Village of Skokie to continue to prioritize the luxury market.

As Trustee, I would champion policies and programs that not only promote but ensure and sustain a mixed-income Skokie.
