Skokie Vision 7

Skokie Vision #7: When people see that they have the power to effect change, it influences their morale, health, and their outreach to others.

I witnessed this as a tenant organizer in Brooklyn when I helped a young mother struggling with alcoholism blossom when she took a leadership role in the tenant association before the slumlord walked away.

Just as when flight attendants tell us to put the oxygen masks on ourselves so we are equipped to help others, so can coming together to achieve a safe and healthy Skokie equip us to reach out to others around the region, country, and world.

As I write, the news *is* scary -- from children suffering from loneliness, to catastrophic flooding from North Carolina to Tibet, to wars around the world.

We have the power to act locally in Skokie and ensure that we can be the change we wish to see globally.
